The Monadnock Writers' Group

Established in 1984, our group's primary purpose is to offer fellowship and support to professional writers and to those actively engaged in developing their writing skills.

While most of our members reside in the southwestern New Hampshire communities which comprise the Monadnock region, we are proud to include talented members from other parts of New Hampshire and from across the borders in Vermont and Massachusetts.

We share a common respect and love for the power of the written word, the special kinship born of our writing, and the desire to promote the literary heritage of the Monadnock region.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone actively writing and publishing or actively trying to improve their creative writing skills. Click here for a membership form to complete and mail.

Contributions

We gratefully accept donations from individuals, organizations, and businesses interested in supporting our effort to promote the literary resources of the region.

Monthly Meetings

Held at the Peterborough Town Library at 9:45 a.m., on the 3rd Saturday of the month, September through June, our meetings give writers an opportunity to socialize, to learn, and to share. Each meeting features a guest speaker, panel, or structured discussion. Past topics included journalism, novel writing, poetry, copyright law, writing advertising copy, children's books, cookbooks, and presentations by editors. Click here to see this season's program calendar.

Meeting Cancellation Policy: In inclement weather, please check this Season's Program Calendar page to determine if the meeting is canceled or not. Or, you can email info@monadnockwriters.org. The decision to cancel a meeting is made by the Board of Directors by 8:00 a.m., at the latest, on the morning of the meeting.

Writers' Workshops

Workshops and public readings give members opportunities to develop their performance skills, while raising public awareness of the talent in the region.

Newsletter

All members receive our monthly newsletter from September to June covering activities and opportunities relevant to writers.

Publications

We periodically accept submissions of poetry, short stories, essays and artwork for anthology publication. Our latest anthology Private Places was released in June, 2004. More information about that and other anthologies can be found on the Publications page.
