Community Programs

​The Monadnock Writers' Group has a strong community presence and collaborates with area organizations such as the Mariposa Museum, the Peterborough Library, and the New Hampshire Writers' Project where we participate in their annual Three-Minute Fiction Slam.

​

We hold a Poetry in the Pines Contest and post the winning entries at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge. Since 1945 Cathedral of the Pines has honored the service of American men and women. Its open-air cathedral and historic monument is open to the public as a place of spiritual, cultural, and environmental appreciation.

In 2026 the Monadnock Writers’ Group, in collaboration with the Crotched Mountain Foundation, held a contest and selected an original poem to honor people with disabilities and those who serve them. 
The Crotched Mountain Foundation (cmf.org) works toward the goal of helping children, students, and adults with disabilities to live, learn, and thrive in the community. Their programs include Crotched Mountain Community Care case management services for seniors and adults with disabilities, chronic illness, and needs related to aging throughout New Hampshire, community-based residential living options, innovative day programming for people with disabilities, affordable HUD housing for adults, accessible hiking trails, and CMF Kids, which supports community-based special education programming in local school districts.

The poem is permanently installed in the Memorial Garden located at the base of the accessible trails on Crotched Mountain. Trails include a boardwalk though woods and wetlands as well as gentle climbs to views of seasonal flowering fields and distant mountains.
